As departments
at UCSB continue to automate their student records and administrative
processes the opportunities for electronic information sharing, file
transmission, dynamic access and, indeed, e-commerce abound. Incompatibilities
in assumptions, technical protocols and data formats can substantially
interfere with the smooth operation of administrative systems and present
a difficult maze to students, faculty and staff.
This subcommittee
provides a forum in which plans for administrative computing systems
may be shared, protocols for electronic communications may be recommended
and the format of common files and data elements negotiated.
Recommendations
might be shared with the ITPG and the ITB or might just be documented
as the consensus on how things are best accomplished. Areas of incompatibility
should also be explored and documented and, where appropriate, shared
with other committees and organizations for discussion.
Vendor supplied
packages might also be investigated. Presentations could be arranged
with results reported to ITPG and other bodies.
