NOTE: Every wireless phone is different, because of this, the
buttons on the ISC phone web site may be mapped to different keys on different
phones.
Steps for using IS&C's wireless phone directory web site:
1) On your wireless phone launch the web browser and go to http://isc.ucsb.edu/iscphone.wml.
You may want to bookmark the site to avoid typing the url each time. To
bookmark a site consult your phone's manual.
2) You should see this introductory screen:
Press the phone key that corresponds to "Enter".
3) You will then be prompted for a first name. You can type in a name
or leave it blank. Press the "Enter" key when you are done.
4) You will then be prompted for a last name. You can type in a name
or leave it blank.
5) Press the "Find" key when you are done.
NOTE ON ENTERING NAMES: If you enter a part of a name, for first or last
name, the search will find names which contain the part entered.
For example: Entering "Davi" will find people named "David"
and "Davis".
Entering "avid" will find people named "David".
Entering "avi" will find all people who have "avi" in their name.
6) Your "Find" will give the names, phone numbers, and email addresses of
the people that matched your search input.
7) a. To call a person you have found, select a person using your phone's
up and down key. Then press "Enter".
b. In order to go back and modify your search, do
one of two things:
- For phones with a "Back" button press "Back" to get the first and
last name input. Then press your phone's "Clear" button to erase the
names and start over.
- For phones with no "Back" button the "Clear" button allows you to
both erase a name and go back to a previous page.
Warning: If your search is too broad or the network is busy you may
get a "network interruption" message.
